Providing an adequate nutrition on time for your puppy is very important. It is at this stage of their lives when they start to acquire customs and habits which will be difficult to correct once they become adults.
Remember that puppies eat less quantities than adults, but they need to eat more often. During the first 10 weeks they should be eating 4 to 5 times a day. Afterwards, between 10 weeks and 5 months old they should eat 3 times a day. Finally from 5 or 6 months only twice per day will be fine.
It’s important for them to be fed always at the same time of the day since their digestive system will adjust to produce gastric juice at that time. If you feed them at irregular times you could cause them some digestive problems.
Take care that your dog doesn’t get distracted when eating because they could stop or spread their food around the house. Give them up to 30 minutes to finish their meal. After this time any leftovers should be discarded and them be given a fresh meal every time.
Remember that after eating they should get some rest. They should have a quiet space for them to take a little nap for their digestion.
